Men's Health in the Spotlight This June

This June, Carson Valley Health is celebrating men – not just on Father’s day – but all month long.
“June is recognized as Men’s Health Month,” states CVH Interim CEO Shannon Albert. “We want to take this opportunity to remind men that taking care of your health is one of the most important things that you can do for yourself, and for your family.”
While statistically women are more inclined to visit their doctor for health concerns, men are also at risk for many of the same conditions including osteoporosis, skin cancer, heart conditions, and even depression. There are a number of male-specific screenings that are recommended for men as early as age 20 and up, such as a PSA for prostate health, blood pressure and cholesterol checks, and colon cancer screenings.
Carson Valley Health is offering discounted PSA screenings for prostate health throughout the month of June. For a flat fee of $30 and no appointment necessary, patients can quickly get in for their PSA screening during any of CVH’s normal business hours. “We know life is hectic, and we want to make it as efficient as possible for men to get in, get screened, and get on with their day,” says Albert.
June 1st is also the kickoff of the Men’s Group – a men’s cancer support group specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of men facing a cancer diagnosis. Facilitated by Bob Macias, twelve-year facilitator for the nationwide Reel Recovery program, the group offers linkages to cancer resources, a support network, and access to medical expertise. The Men’s Group kicks off at 5:30 pm upstairs in the CVH Business Office on June 1st, and will continue to meet the first Wednesday of each month.
