Gardnerville, Nev. - Carson Valley Health welcomes Northern Nevada local Jed Freeman, MD, FACP to Cancer Care. Dr. Freeman has practiced hematology and oncology for over 30 years locally and around the nation and looks forward to joining CVH.
“I am happy and grateful for the opportunity to return to work full-time in Nevada. I'm especially excited for the opportunity to work at CVH, a warm and friendly environment that reminds me of when I first started practicing in 1992, when institutions valued their community more than the bottom line,” said Dr. Freeman.
“CVH also affords me the opportunity to validate the reason the UNR School of Medicine was created; to train local Nevada physicians to practice in rural Nevada. Nevada has given me so much: my education, my career, my wife, and two of our three children were born here. It's my turn to give back! I am committed to bringing outstanding local care to an outstanding community."
Hailing from New York, Dr. Freeman found medicine as a calling at age seven when he lost his father. “I got the notion I should try and fix things and help heal people.” After a brief detour following college, Dr. Freeman went back to medical school and foresaw the changes and developments in treating cancer after working at the National Institute of Health. When he started, certain stage four cancers had median survival times of a few months, now the average survival rate is in terms of years, “We’ve gone from harsh treatments to targeted immunotherapy and gene therapy. Every patient is a puzzle, and we figure out what's wrong with them and how to help them. I love what I do.”
In his spare time, Dr. Freeman loves to play golf and ice hockey.
